BY KENNETH NYANGANI THE Anglican Diocese of Manicaland Bishop Eric Ruwona has requested for more land from government to construct church-run schools.
“We have a rich history of running schools and we are happy that we have a government interested in infrastructure development and we are ready to partner and we are pleading with the government to give us land so that we can help it to build schools after announcing it has a backlog of 3 000 schools,” said Ruwona in an interview with NewsDay yesterday.
Applauding the performance of church-run schools in the 2021 Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council Ordinary and Advanced level results Ruwona said: “l am a proud head of the church, thanks to our education development as our schools performed well at the Ordinary and Advanced levels 2021 result. Our schools did very well, we have St Faith, St Augustine and St David Bonda High school among others.
“The schools really raised the church’s flag very high and we want to thank our teachers and headmasters for their sterling work.”
Ruwona disputed allegations that church-run schools are excluding marginalised and poor children saying: “We want to dispute the allegations that we have been excluding the marginalised and poor children in our schools. That is totally opposite because we cater for everyone.”
