Three other fishermen who were on the same dinghy were rescued by anglers participating in the Kariba International Tiger Fish Tournament 2024.

Members of the police sub-aqua unit and the local community teamed up and recovered the bodies near Antelope Islands before taking them to Kariba Hospital for postmortem .

"We, the Kariba community, are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our loved ones in the recent boat capsize accident. Our hearts go out to the families affected," Kariba Residents Trust (KART) spokesperson Marshal Mushore said while urging the community to prioritize safety.

Lake Kariba has been the site of several boat accidents over the years, highlighting the inherent dangers associated with fishing and recreational activities on the water body.

In one case, three people perished after a motorized boat capsized near

Tsetse Island, last year in October.
