Zinwa restores Beitbridge water supplies after closure threat

The development came after authorities running the Beitbridge Border Post warned of possible closure or reduced operating hours due to inadequate water.

THE Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) has restored water supplies to Beitbridge town, five days after it cut supplies to force payment of $2,7 million in unpaid bills by the local municipality

The development came after authorities running the Beitbridge Border Post warned of possible closure or reduced operating hours due to inadequate water.

"Zinwa wishes to advise stakeholders that it has restored water supplies to Beitbridge Municipality which were disconnected on August 5, 2024. The reconnection has been done as parties pursue a more sustainable working arrangement," said Zinwa spokesperson Marjorie Munyonga.

The restoration provides relief to the local authority, which had expressed concern at increasing cases of open defecation, as people had no water for their ablution facilities.
