JP, Feli Nandi, Mokoomba, Gemma headline Tuku festival

CONTEMPORARY musician Jah Prayzah will lead a rich mixture of Afro-fusion and soul musicians Feli Nandi, Mokoomba and Gemma Griffiths as they headline the inaugural Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival of the Arts (OMIFA) set for September 21 and 22.

The festival will be held at Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton to celebrate the life of music grandee Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, who died on January 23, 2019 aged 66 at the Avenues Clinic in Harare.

With a career spanning over four decades, Tuku released 60 albums with many hit songs, leaving behind a beautiful legacy.

The festival will also see Norton-based artistes sharing the stage with the big names in the country.

Also making it to the line-up is Andy Muridzo, Bryan K, Mary Anibal, Djembe Monks, Fusion 5 Mangwiro, Nisha Ts, Mwendamberi (Solution GC), Taffie Matiure, Gwevedzi Redefined and Aaron Myers & Trio (from the United States).

The Norton-based artistes include Vazukuru veAfrica, Innosaint Sax, Munya Nyamarebvu, Jay Watta, The Black Spirits featuring Mbeu, Donald Kanyuchi and Sarungano.

A commemorative dinner will be held, with performances and productions in music theatre curated by SunTu Guild & Thomas Brickhill (Chikwata 263); fashion curated by the Skeyi & Strobo Fabrik Party; art, dance and film curated by First Floor Gallery Harare; spoken word by Sibonokuhle Siwawa (Skai); a children’s programme curated by Precious Children’s Arts Organisation, as well as a series of workshops and masterclasses for creatives.
