THE fifth edition of the Pumula Royal Arts and Community Awards (PRACA) has been slated for December 21 in Bulawayo, organisers have said, with a focus on community development and recognition of community champions.
“This prestigious event celebrates excellence in the cultural and creative industries, as well as community development and recognises outstanding contributions from individuals and organisations,” PRACA director Happy Mpofu said.
“The PRACA Awards have become a highly-anticipated event in the local community, attracting artists, performers and community leaders from all walks of life. This year's edition promises to be bigger and better than ever, showcasing the incredible talent and dedication within the Pumula community and Bulawayo as a whole.”
The award categories include music, dance, theatre, visual arts, literature and community service.
“The awards serve as a platform to showcase the rich artistic and cultural heritage of Pumula and Bulawayo, while also acknowledging the tireless efforts of those working towards the betterment of the community,” Mpofu said.
He stated that the fifth edition will also have new award categories introduced, some that extend beyond the borders of Pumula.
“Pumula Royal Arts and Community Awards is also excited to announce the introduction of five new award categories that extend beyond the borders of Pumula. These categories aim to recognise and celebrate the exceptional talents and contributions of artists and community members from outside Pumula who have made a significant impact in their respective fields," Mpofu said.
He said PRACA Awards was always committed to promoting artistic excellence and community development within Pumula.

"By expanding our reach, we hope to create a more inclusive platform that showcases the diverse talents and contributions of neighbouring communities," he said.
The event provides a platform for artists and community members to come together, exchange ideas and inspire one another to create positive work.
Mpofu said only works produced between July 31, 2023, and August 10, 2024 would be considered.
