Craft Properties intensifies community developmental programmes

Property developer Craft Properties

Property developer Craft Properties has intensified its corporate social responsibility programme in line with the aspirations of the government.

The Kadoma-based company has been involved in a number of community development programmes over the years.

Just a few months ago, the company in partnership with Masvingo Municipality donated 10 wheelchairs to people with disabilities in and around the ancient city.

“We have constructed two learning blocks and we intend to make them three, with the third block being a computer and science laboratory,” said Craft Properties CEO Kudakwashe Taruberekera.

“The school is sitting on 12 hectares of land, which implies a huge area for other income generating projects in line with Education 5.0 and the heritage-based curriculum which is promoting the teaching of science and technology, engineering, arts and mathematics disciplines.

“It is our wish that we continue with the construction of other blocks until the intended international standard is attained.”

Taruberekera said they were also drilling a borehole to service the school.

“The borehole is meant to maintain sanitation at the school, with provision of flashing system toilets that are already under construction by our company,” he said.

“This move was adopted in a bid to ensure the country’s education product is competitive and relevant to the needs of our country and global entities.

“The urgent need for attention at the school prompted us to respond with haste when the authorities approached us for assistance.

“We learnt that they struggled for 22 years to put up a structure that qualifies them to be a formal school.

“It is against such a background that, us as a private entity, our motive is derived from your mantra of leaving no-one and no place behind.”

The land developer says at this crucial time, the private sector including SMEs have a big role to play.

“We need to ensure a brighter future coined in His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa's vision of prosperous empowered upper-middle income society by 2030 for all including vulnerable groups,” Taruberekera said.

“The landmark investment in the education infrastructure is a significant step towards ensuring quality and equitable access to education across the country in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4) and the 2030 Education Development Agenda.”

It is not the first time that Craft Properties has committed to the total eradication of poverty, zero hunger, promotion of education; wellbeing and good health.

The organization occasionally donates groceries to the disabled, old people’s homes, children’s homes, and pays school fees for the less privileged pupils.

“We have been instrumental in the fight against the deadly Covid virus by providing finance to spearhead awareness campaigns and other Covid related programmes as well as assisting 84 people with food,” Taruberekera said.

“Furthermore, we are of great joy complimenting the unwavering efforts by the government to avail policies that promote free and compulsory primary and secondary education.”

Under its corporate social responsibility programme, Craft Properties is exploring ways to reach out to marginalised communities like Siakobvu in Kariba district.

He said he was looking forward to constructing a clinic in Chakari in partnership with Sanyati Rural District Council.

Meanwhile, Craft Properties has congratulated President Mnangagwa for becoming the Sadc chairman.

“Your Excellency, please accept our kindest congratulations on your alluring ascension to the position of chairmanship of the Sadc bloc,” he said.

“We are confident that your influence on the regional political matrix will go a long way in fostering regional peace, stability and security, which is the cornerstone for flourishing economies.”
