It has been raining for the past few weeks, making footwear one giant nightmare for many. The good news is with the right footwear in your wardrobe, the rains will hardly distract your flow and energy. We are going to take a look at some of contemporary rain footwear that can make wet weather a breeze.
Contrary to common beliefs, leather does get ruined by water. Leather soaks up water like a sponge. However, it can only tolerate a certain amount of water in it. Excess rain like we have been experiencing of late can damage the leather and make it break down prematurely. If it so happens that you are caught in the rain wearing your leather shoes, you can stuff them with newspaper to soak up the moisture, and allow them to dry before wearing them again, just as a way to prolong their lifespan.
Let’s explore some of the footwear options that can make wet weather not so dreadful. For both men and women, a great option is rubber-soled shoes. A rubber sole shoe prevents water from seeping in and will dry quickly, allowing you to be both warm and comfortable at work even if you get caught up in the rain on your way to work.
For the ladies, the perfect shoe for a wet day is the rain boot. Available on the market in different lengths, this shoe is ideal to keep you dry and warm when the storm hits. However, due to the radical changes in weather that we have, you might want to have a rescue shoe somewhere in case it gets very hot and wearing the rain boot begins to feel like your feet are slow cooking.
For the ladies who enjoy the outdoors, you will soon discover that the rain boot is one practical shoe that can be worn beyond the rain. It is very comfortable in muddy terrain while fishing, gardening and exploring the wild. In essence, it is the shoe to have whenever you need to keep your feet dry.
Crocs are a perfect rain shoe that you can wear when you are in wet weather. Although these are synonymous with cheap plastic shoes that are on sale on the market, there are some fancy and expensive crocs of all styles and colours. I find that the popular ones in wet weather are the ankle croc boots. These will not only keep you dry, but the high ankles will keep the water out in addition coupled with a pair of stockings, these will keep you warm throughout the day.
While others prefer the croc slip-on and open rubber shoes, these can work, but will expose your feet to the water, increasing the chances of you catching a cold and getting wrinkly toes. Furthermore, they would require that you have another pair of shoes to wear when you get out of the rain as they are not quite suitable for the office or formal meetings.

When the rains come most guys assume that their shoes are good enough to walk with in the rain without ruining them. This is not quite true. Most of the fancier and more expensive dress shoes often come with leather sole. While these provide great traction and a classy appearance, wearing them in the rain can ruin them.
For the guys who take their shoes seriously, the best dress shoe to wear in wet weather is anything made from cordovan leather, which is equine leather that is naturally weather-resistant, thick and one of the strongest leathers on earth. Leaning more to the expensive side of shoes, these shoes are a worthwhile investment as they will almost always look shined, never crease and work-appropriate.
If you are not up to spending too much on your footwear, there are options that you can consider as well. There are less expensive, but still solid footwear that uses water-resistant materials such as synthetic leather or gor-tex. Although not as stylish as the leather shoes, these will suit practical men in wet weather. However, make sure to pick a pair that has decent traction on the soles to complete the look.
The boot is another ideal shoe for wet weather. The most appropriate boot for wet weather is one with a rubber sole. Most high-cut boots are idea for wet weather as the higher ankle keeps the water out. However, make sure to get a pair that is waterproofed like the Timbaland, or waterproof Chelsea boots if you are looking for a more professional and sophisticated look.
There are several types of waterproof snickers on the market. These you can easily identify with the light plastic film or sheet that they have and some even have a rubber top. Although most of these can be very uncomfortable in hot weather, they are great for wet weather as they keep your feet dry. Now that we have the right shoes for this rainy weather, let’s enjoy it and keep warm and dry.
