LOCAL author Biggie Chiranga will next Friday launch a new book titled Musambo WeDendera in honour of Dendera legends Simon and Naison Chimbetu.

The book, which will be launched at the Harare Gardens, was published by Aleck Kaposa.

Poet Tinashe Muchuri and Dendera musician Allan Chimbetu are expected to entertain the audience.

“The book Musambo WeDendera, which I wrote as a tribute to the Dendera legends Simon and Naison Chimbetu, seeks to trace the origins of the Dendera music genre and its expansion in Zimbabwe and Africa,” said Chiranga.

“There is also a special section about the depiction of songs and their meanings and messages.

“Readers would enjoy reading anecdotes spiralling in the lives of these musicians as they rose rapidly to fame.”

Chiranga, a Maths teacher by profession, is a poet and novelist and has contributed poems in the book Tipeiwo Dariro which was published by the College Press in 1994.

The anthology was a Zimsec set book for several years.

He also has other publications among them Chainga Chenduri, Zambuko, Hausundi, Essential Voices, Where Hope Lingers a Little Longer, Mwenje and Madirirano.
