Pezhuba Pachena dances to 4th Chibuku Neshamwari provincial win

The group aims to raise awareness on community issues through their artistic performances

HWANGE-BASED dance group, Pezhuba Pachena has won the Matabeleland North Chibuku Neshamwari Dance Festival provincial finals for the fourth time.

The group came out tops in provincial finals held on Sunday. Having won previously in 2016, 2019 and 2023, the ensemble won the competition with their performance of the Nambya Nsumbule dance. Pezhuba Pachena was formed in May 2012 as a male acapella group that later incorporated females and instruments like marimba into their performances.

The group aims to raise awareness on community issues through their artistic performances. For its efforts, Pezhuba Pachena pocketed US$2 500. Pezhuba Pachena's director, Lucky Munzabwa, attributed their win to several factors including careful preparation, dedication in rehearsals, energetic performance, well-designed choreography and effective use of props.

Munzabwa explained that they use the competition's judging criteria to guide their practice, ensuring they hit all the key areas to maximize their score. Munzabwa added that they are determined to bring the national title to Matabeleland North province.

“Our plan involves strengthening the team through more rehearsals and collaboration with other artists and directors. We believe that combining their talents and sharing ideas will create an even stronger performance that will make the province proud,” Munzabwa said. Meanwhile, Victoria Fall products Amakhosikazi, who danced Isitshikitsha, and Sizofika with their Mzansi dance secured second and third place at the finals.
