New Zima boss lays out her vision

Kush said Zima’s long-term goal was to be continuous and consistent in order to spotlight Zimbabwe to be recognised on the global map.

The newly-appointed Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima) CEO Fungai “Kush” Zvirawa says she will continue engaging with various stakeholders in order to grow the music industry in Zimbabwe.

Zvirawa, who succeeded Reason “Rizzla” Sibanda, said she wanted to see Zima become one of the most sought-after award organisers globally, hence her stance on continuing from where she started last year.

“I started being involved in Zima last year, so I am just continuing with my engagement in Zimbabwean talent and grow the Zimbabwean music awards,” she said.

“I will also engage with music executives from a global landscape so that we can actually have the right professionals to give us knowledge and expertise to the networks.

“Firstly, we need to work on the in-house structure and the housekeeping needs to be done.

“We are also embarking on recruitment, securing the right partnerships and we are also calling out for collaborations from stakeholders who are keen to grow and contribute to the music industry which is our short-term goal.”

Zvirawa said Zima’s long-term goal was to be continuous and consistent in order to spotlight Zimbabwe to be recognised on the global map.

She said she was thankful for being appointed in the music industry.

“'I am looking at this as a national project, as it includes the entire music landscape,” she said.

“I am very proud to be spearheading the awards, being an executive director.”

Zvirawa holds a degree in Communications and Media Studies from Brunel University and she has also worked with award-winning talents such as Shasha, Shingai Shoniwa and Author Evans.
