Vincent brothers battle for return to lucrative LIV circuit

The other golfers who make it into the top 10 will also earn full exemption into all 2025 events on The International Series.

Two of the country's top professional golfers Scott and Kieran Vincent are fighting for the sole ticket back to the money spinning LIV Golf League as they take part in Promotions tournament which teed off at Riyadh Golf Club in Saudi Arabia yesterday.

The two brothers were part of the LIV Golf League this year with Scott Vincent representing Iron Heads GC and Kieran Vincent turning out for Legion XIII before they were relegated at the end of the season.

A total of 92 golfers from 30 different countries including the Zimbabweans are taking part in the LIV Golf Promotions event where only the winner will earn a place in the LIV Golf League for year.

The other golfers who make it into the top 10 will also earn full exemption into all 2025 events on The International Series.

Scott and Kieran are among the five golfers who were relegated from the LIV Golf League including Hudson Swafford, Branden Grace and Kalle Samooja.

They are part of the 28 players who were exempt from playing in the first round of the tournament yesterday and are set join 20 golfers including ties who managed to progress from the 64 who played in the first round, in the second round today.

The top 20 players (no ties) who survive today will then compete in a 36-hole shootout on tomorrow and the winner becomes a LIV Golf regular next year.

The format is unique and challenging, with a scores reset after each of the first two rounds.

There are 25 players in this week’s field who competed in last year’s Promotions tournament including the winner Samooja.

Following his first-round bye, Samooja was T11 after round two to advance, then after the leaderboard reset, he shot 65-71 on the final day to win by one stroke.

“The first two days are more crucial,” Samooja said.

“When you get to the last two days, that's where you can just go for it. You don't need to hold back. There's nothing to lose. It's only about who gets the spot this week. If you slip a little bit on Friday, you might not even get the chance on Saturday.

“You need to have a solid day on Friday, get to Saturday, and when the lights go out, you just go as fast as you can,” he added.

Samooja managed to avoid the three-for-two playoff necessary to fill the other two Promotions spots last year, eventually claimed by Kieran Vincent and Jinichiro Kozuma.

But with this year’s change in which only the winner receives a full-time LIV Golf spot for 2025, the pressure will increase on the final day.

Of the two Zimbabwe, the 27-year- old Kieran Vincent appears to be in a good knick compared to his older brother after he claimed two top 10 finish on the International Series in the last two weeks.

The Promotions event is sponsored to the tune of US$1. 5 millions with the winner set to walk away with US$200 000 for his troubles.-

Riyadh Golf Club is a par 71 course and is 7. 408 years long.
