Top Zimbabwe amateur golfer Michael Wallace closed the 2024 season on the domestic scene in style after he bagged the Zim Matchplay at ZRP Golf Club in Harare on Sunday.
The Match play featured some of the best amateur golfers including US-based Tariro November, Keegan Shutt, Vincent Chidambazina and Kelvin Muchenje among others.
Wallace managed to amass 50 points to win the titles while Muchenje, playing on his home course finished in second place give points behind and Darlington Chikanyambidze was third on 40 points.
November could only settle for fourth place with Shutt completing the top give on 35 and 30 points respectively.
"Congratulations Michael Wallace, for winning the Zim Matchplay Tournament, which ended today (Sunday) at ZRP Golf Club in Harare. The second position went to Kelvin Muchenje of ZRP Golf Club, while Darlington Chikanyambidze of Royal Harare came 3rd.
'ZGA would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Golfers who took part in the 2024 season. We are also indebted to all the stakeholders who supported us in one way or another. The 2025 National Calendar of Events will be published in due course," Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA) said after the tournament.
It was a third amateur win for Wallace on the local circuit since his return for the US mid-year after dropping out of school to pursue his golf career full-time.Wallace opted for another route to professional golf after he dropped out of Midland College in Texas, United States.
And the plan for Wallace is to play in top amateur tournaments before turning pro in two years' time.After second place finished at the Manicaland Amateur and Zim Amateur, Wallace went on to bag the Roland Park Open as well as the Elephant Hills Open and now the Zim Matchplay.

The young golfers also had a good performance at the All Africa Golf Team Championship, captaining the Zimbabwe team in a tournament which the country hosted at Bulawayo Golf Club in October and November.
Wallace shot rounds of 74 69 73 and 70 over the four days for a 2 - under par final score and was seven strokes behind winner Jordan Burnand from South Africa who needed a playoff to beat compatriot Ivan Verster to the individual prize after they both tied on 9 - under par at the end of the fourth round.
Since his return from the US, Wallace has finished second at the Manicaland Amateur and second at the Zim Amateur before winning the Roland Park Open as well as the FBC Elephant Hills Open.
He has also had some good performances in South Africa where he has a second place finish.Chidambazina, who won three amateur tournaments this year also struggled to impose himself at the Zim Matchplay and only finished seventh with just 20 points.
