Scott Vincent impresses on return to Japan Golf Tour

Vincent, who is a three-time winner on the Japan Golf Tour, was making his first appearance of the season on the circuit after a difficult season on the LIV Golf League.

Zimbabwean professional golfer Scott Vincent carded a superb seven-under 64 on Sunday to earn himself a solid fifth place finish in the Japan Golf Tour’s Dunlop Phoenix Open at Phoenix Country Club in Miyazaki, Japan.

Vincent, who is a three-time winner on the Japan Golf Tour, was making his first appearance of the season on the circuit after a difficult season on the LIV Golf League.

After earlier rounds of 69, 67 and 66, Vincent reserved his best for last with a superb 65 which featured an incredible nine birdies and three bogeys.

He finished a shot behind the trio of South Africa’s Shaun Norris, Akshay Bhatia of the United States and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, who shared second on 18-under-par for the tournament.

The Zimbabwean star was five strokes behind the winner, Max McGreevy of the United States.

Playing on a sponsor’s invitation, the 29-year-old McGreevy, who led the tournament since the second round, remarkedly dropped only one shot all week and signed off with a tournament record of 22-under-par 262.

It was McGreevy’s third win this season following his two triumphs on the Korn Ferry Tour. McGreevy closed with a 69, while Bhatia and Matsuyama matched Norris with their closing 65s.

He also etched his name into the illustrious roll of honour where past champions of the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament include Seve Ballesteros (1981), Tiger Woods (2004, 2005), Masashi Ozaki (1994, 1995, 1996) and Matsuyama (2004).
