How Pasuwa, Mapeza snubbed Zifa

Zifa normalisation committee chairman Lincoln Mutasa has revealed that both Kalisto Pasuwa and Norman Mapeza turned down offers from the association for the two to coach the Warriors.

Zifa normalisation committee chairman Lincoln Mutasa has revealed that both Kalisto Pasuwa and Norman Mapeza turned down offers from the association for the two to coach the Warriors.

The football mother body are on the prowl fro a senior national team substantive coach and they head hunted Pasuwa and Mapeza but both were unwilling to take up the position.

Zifa had an audacious plan to team up Pasuwa and Mapeza in the Warriors set up.

Pasuwa turned down the offer as he is comfortable in Malawi where he trains Nyasa Bullets while Mapeza is owed a lot of money for services rendered to Zifa over the years..

Mutasa made the revelation in an interview with broadcaster Lovemore Banda on his YouTube channel.

“When we started looking for a coach, once Fifa had given us the go-ahead, we actually approached Kalisto (Pasuwa) as well as Norman (Mapeza). Ideally, we wanted Kalisto and Norman to work together,” Mutasa said.

“But Kalisto, I think he is quite satisfied where he is, because he was not forthcoming. Then we settled on Norman and for sure, we would have continued with Norman, but there were one or two things he was not satisfied with, so he did not want to continue (after the Malawi invitational tournament).

"So we did approach both of them, that is the bottom line. It’s in the public domain, he worked for Zifa for many years and is owed a lot of money and that money was not satisfactorily paid to him.

"When we came on board, there was still a chunk (of money) owed to him and we have been making payment efforts to try and repay that outstanding amount. I don’t know whether we have finished or not but clearly these are some of the issues that he wasn’t satisfied with."

Both Pasuwa and Mapeza presided over the Warriors at the Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Jairos Tapera will guide the Warriors in their next assignments as Zifa are yet to finalise the appointment of a substantive coach for the team.
