Bogus junior Sadc Parliament motivator dupes students

A 17-YEAR-OLD bogus junior motivator for Sadc Parliament duped several students in Harare after asking them to pay fees for an outreach programme.

A 17-YEAR-OLD bogus junior motivator for Sadc Parliament duped several students in Harare after asking them to pay fees for an outreach programme.

The student, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was released into the custody of his guardian after appearing before a Harare magistrate.

The suspect duped more than 30 students from various schools in Harare.

It is the State’s case that sometime last month, the accused person held a meeting with different schools at Queen Elizabeth High School in Harare.

The accused told the participants that he was a member of Junior Parliament and had an organisation which is seeking new members.

The accused asked the complainants to pay US$62 each for registration and uniforms.

The accused went on to ask the complainants to pay another US$50 each for camping at Domboshava Resort.

The complainants made various payments and were issued with receipts in the name of Junior Motivators Sadc Parliament.

The State alleges that after receiving a number of payments from the complainants, the accused became evasive.

The complainants later discovered that they had been duped and made a police report, leading to the arrest of the accused person.

The total amount is US$2 640 and nothing was recovered.
