People's Unity Party (PUP) leader Herbert Chamuka has announced that his party will be launched soon in Harare.

Chamuka said that party will be launched together with it's manifesto.

South Africa-based politician Herbert Chamuka told this publication that he formed PUP after breaking ranks with his colleagues in the Ideas Party of Democracy (IPD) over ideological issues.

The party notified the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) of its existence and willingness to participate in this year’s general elections.

"IPD was disbanded following disagreements over leadership and positional issues.

"We are going to launch PUP before elections," he said.

Chamuka is not contesting in this coming election scheduled for 23 August 2023, but he is campaigning for his party's candidates.

"We didn't file court nomination papers for PUP's presidential candidate, parliament and senate, but we filed for local government.

"We filed for those who worked hard for PUP, especially for Emily Ngwena in Makoni South.

"Emily Ngwena who is vying for Ward 30 Makoni South. She has a lot of projects that she would want to establish in her ward. The projects include drilling boreholes, farming inputs, sending underprivileged children to school, and so forth.

Chamuka added that the party will also campaign for Constance Thandi who is is contesting for Ward 17 in Chitungwiza.

"So, we will not run with Ngwena alone, we also have Constance Thandi in Ward 17 Chitungwiza and we are hopeful that if we do our campaigns as planned, they will make it.

"We are also support Philip Patrick Mugadza, who is vying for MP in Kariba," he said.
