BY NIZBERT MOYO THE 64th edition of Matabeleland South Agricultural Show will run from August 18 to 20 with the major attraction being the artificial insemination programme for cattle breeders.
Matabeleland South Agricultural Show Society (MSASS) president Mkhulunyelwa Ngwenya told Southern Eye that the exhibition will run under the theme Revamping the face of Agriculture for Food Security and Economic Sustainability.
The event is expected to be graced by First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa.
Ngwenya said the COVID-19-induced-lockdowns had slowed down agricultural activities in the province.
He urged corporates, farmers, other organisations, academics and researchers to come up with revised, improved and renewed approaches that ensure that agriculture provides sufficient, safe, nutritious and preferred food for communities.
“Gwanda show grounds will be the venue to share the new strategies of revamping our agricultural sector. One of the major attractions this year is the artificial insemination programme for cattle breeders,’’ Ngwenya said.
“Farmers are excited about this, both commercial and stud cattle breeders.
“There will be a lot of business interactions and a cocktail dinner at a local lodge for exhibitors where companies will be selling their products and services to fellow exhibitors.

“We are expecting good attendance from new and traditional exhibitors due to relaxed COVID-19 restrictions. New exhibitors include Insurance and Pensions Commision, Turnall Holdings, the department of war veterans, Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and the Zimbabwe National Army, who had been absent for some time.”
Ngwenya said they were still waiting for confirmation from foreign municipalities such as Makhado and Musina municipalities in South Africa who were invited to exhibit at the fair under the Trans Limpopo Development Initiative.
