I owe my success to my mother: Musakwa

Musakwa said he wrote the song to encourage himself and others to continue trusting in the Lord.

UP-AND-COMING gospel artiste Towe Musakwa (42) has praised his mother for helping to nurture his musical career from an early stage.

Speaking to NewsDay Life and Style, Musakwa, a devoted member of the New Life Covenant Church, said his mother was his coach.

“Growing up, my mother was my coach. After being coached by her, I would go and sing before other children at assembly in school, he said.

Towe recently released a single titled Tovimba Nemi, which he said was inspired by the Holy Spirit.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, people were hopeless as we did not know what tomorrow held. Africans, and worse us Zimbabweans, could not see light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.

Musakwa said he wrote the song to encourage himself and others to continue trusting in the Lord.

The single came 14 years after the album Simba Mukaka, released in 2010.

Musakwa said he would continue to minister through music, adding that he would hold shows soon.

“My goal is to cause revival, targeting Africa as a whole through gospel music. I believe my music can encourage listeners in their faith walk,” he said.

“. . . the sick must be healed, the weak must say I am strong and the poor must say I am rich, after they listen to my music.”

Musakwa acknowledged the role of his faith and personal relationship with God in his music.

“There is no gospel music without the word of God and without faith in Christ.”
