GOVERNMENT is set to open a passport office in Gokwe, the Midlands province, a development that will see those intending to acquire the travelling document no longer travelling long distances to access it.
According to the Zanu PF Midlands provincial information desk, renovations and upgrading work are underway at the Gokwe South government complex to accommodate the passport office.
The residents have been travelling to Gweru or Harare to apply and collect their passports.
The development will also ease congestion at passport offices in Gweru and Harare.
Government has been establishing modern e-passport enrolment centres in most cities to make it easy for locals to access passports.
Gokwe Central Member of Parliament Davison Masvisvi (Zanu PF) said he was happy with the development.

“I am very happy with the establishment of a passport office in Gokwe South which shall also serve both Gokwe North and South districts as opposed to travelling to Gweru passport office which has proven to be costly,” Masvisvi said.
