GWERU City Parking Company has introduced a promotion that will see motor vehicle parking fees going down to US$3 for the whole day at selected areas in the city, Southern Eye has learnt.
“Gweru City Parking wishes to advise the motoring public that effective December 16, 2024 to February 1, 2025, we will be running a Christmas US$3 parking fee promotion at selected parking areas,” read the Gweru City Parking (Private) Limited statement.
“During the promotion period motorists will be allowed to pay a once-off US$3 parking fee for the whole day.”
The parking management company said there were three zones in the central business district (CBD) where motorists could park their vehicles during the promotion.
The company, however, said the current US$1 per hour fee would remain in place for the rest of the Midlands capital CBD parking areas.
Gweru City Council partnered Gweru City Parking in rolling a pre-paid parking system to replace the manual system that had long been condemned by both motorists and residents saying it was prone to abuse.

The local authority said the parking revenue it was receiving was evidence of a successful public-private partnership with the company contracted to manage parking in the city.
