A Chitungwiza woman who was living with the decomposing body of her 80-year-old husband appeared before Chitungwiza Magistrates Court facing culpable homicide charges.

Plaxedes Mashasha was arrested on Monday alongside her son Grant (39) who was found hiding in a ceiling at their Zengeza 3 home in Chitungwiza after 14 years in hiding.

Plaxedes was remanded in custody to tomorrow for bail.

According to the national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi the mother claims that: “The father had suffered a stroke 30 years ago and she went for a church service on November 15 only to come back on November 21 and found the doors locked. She then discovered that the husband had died.”

Several versions of the story emanated from the neighbours including allegations that Grant was kept in hiding by her mother after allegedly murdering a sibling.
