The accused, Simon Makoni (21) was granted US$50 bail and remanded to June 24.

Makoni is alleged to have assaulted council policeman Pensila Dennis on May 6, 2024, following a misunderstanding at corner Speke and Cameron roads where the former was selling steak pies.

Circumstances are that on the fateful day,Dennis and his colleagues were on patrol enforcing city council by-laws when the complainant arrested Makoni’s friend.

Makoni allegedly intervened in a bid to rescue his friend, leading to a scuffle.

In the ensuing melee, Makoni charged towards the complainant and allegedly struck him with a metal object once on the right hand and shoulder.

Dennis’ workmates then intervened and arrested Makoni.

Complainant claims that he lost a Samsung A30 cellphone worth US$100 during the scuffle.
