African Sun appoints new chairperson

A board member since May 1, 2021, Mhishi succeeds Constantine Chikosi, who stepped down after a five-year tenure as chairperson.

LEADING hospitality group, African Sun Limited, has appointed top lawyer Lloyd Mhishi as its new board chairperson, effective July 8,2024.

The appointment comes as the group is poised to capitalise on the growing demand for meetings, incentives, conferencing and exhibitions business.

A board member since May 1, 2021, Mhishi succeeds Constantine Chikosi, who stepped down after a five-year tenure as chairperson.

The group has also announced plans to invest US$11 million in capital expenditures in 2024, focusing on information technology, product enhancements and property upgrades.

“Lloyd is a practising legal practitioner, academic and author with over 30 years of legal practice experience as an associate and partner in well-known law firms in Zimbabwe and as the founding and senior partner of Mhishi Nkomo Legal Practice,” the company said.

“He has served as a non-executive director of a number of organisations, including the Zimbabwe Cricket Union, FBC Building Society and Ecobank Zimbabwe Limited.”

The new chairperson is also a past president of the Law Society of Zimbabwe and was a commissioner on the Judicial Service Commission.

The group noted that the outgoing chairman had shown exemplary leadership and invaluable contributions to the company during his tenure.

In its financial results for the year ended December 31, 2023, the hospitality group posted a profit after tax from continuing operations of US$521 045 from US$7,6 million in 2023 .
