Conscious reggae icon Burning Spear, born Winston Rodney (pictured), says conscious reggae enthusiasts should get ready to skank the night away when the Jamaican legend performs at the Glamis Arena in Harare as part of his One People Africa Tour Concert.
The show is slated for October 18.
The One People Africa Tour Concert will see Burning Spear performing in Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
He will perform at the Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi, Kenya on October 12, Emperors’ Palace (The Park) in Johannesburg, South Africa and on October 20 he will fly to Cape Town for a gig at the Mhudi Wines Farm.
On October 23 and 26, Burning spear will perform at the Mika Convention Centre, Lusaka in Zambia and at Civo Stadium, Lilongwe in Malawi, respectively.
Burning Spear also completed a 22-day North America tour on June 28 and embarked on a tour of Europe which begun on July 27 and ended on August 11.
Speaking on ZBC Classic 263’s Reggae Talk reggae Rhythms programme last Sunday, Burning spear confirmed that he was coming to Zimbabwe.
“To I man it’s about my fans. I will go where they want I man to go universally and respectfully and I will be Zimbabwe, come October 18,” Burning Spear said.
“Of course, I man will come with the Burning band for the One People AfricaTour 2024. I man will be in all the places I am supposed to be in Africa.
“The show is controlled by I and the Burning Band throughout Africa. We have had tours in USA and Europe and out of Europe into Africa. It’s a continuation.
“There is no question or fear, we will be in Zimbabwe to continue with the One People Africa Tour in Zimbabwe.”
The African Teacher hit maker said he was ready to rock Zimbabwe.
“Let me repeat this; I man will be in Zimbabwe to give the people their share. The Spear and the Burning Band will be there in Zimbabwe.”
Burning Spear, who is riding high with his latest offering titled No Destroyer, described his music as “clean and honest”.
“The album is real, it’s clean and it’s honest. The song, Mommy, talks about hard times in terms of finances and other expenses, but mommy is always there for us,” he said.
“She has to plan for the kids. This album has something for everyone. It’s for all my fans globally.”
Burning Spear announced his retirement in 2016 only to bounce back five years later.
“Yes I man, took a pause or a break. We can’t retire from what His Majesty assigns us to do,” he said.
“It’s a mission and I am fan driven to come to Zimbabwe.”
Burning Spear is one of the most influential and long-standing roots artists to emerge from the 1970s.
He has won two Grammy Awards for Best Reggae Album; one at the 42nd Grammy Awards in 2000 for Calling Rastafari, and one for 2009’s Jah Is Real.
He has been nominated for a total of 14 Grammy Awards.
Organisers said they have since stopped selling the early bird tickets, but fans can buy tickets at Med Orange Pharmacies.
Killer T, Feli Nandi, Transit Crew, Cello Culture, Merciless, Banso DA MC, and MC Fydale The Don will be the supporting acts.
