BUDDING musician Brandon Gobvu says being a finalist on Reality Competition “Bring It On” will have a lasting impact on his career.
The young rapper from Budiriro, Harare squared off with the talented and loved fellow rapper Mucci The Plug last Saturday at the Northside Christian Church at Sam Levy in Borrowdale.
In an interview with Standard Style, Brandon said he hadn't been serious about the competition when he first entered.
“I just came across the 'Bring it On' advert on my Instagram and I wasn’t even taking it seriously,” he said.
“I was like uhm I am auditioning, but might not be able to attend so I just submitted my video and got added to the group.
“So I went for the physical audition and got an idea that it would be good to actually be serious about it.
“It promotes clean music and making God known while finding talent.”
The third year Psychology student at Great Zimbabwe University said he learnt more than music.
“We attended a workshop and they were just teaching us on how to carry ourselves as artists and how to be different and give people non-destructive content, expectations and all those kind of things,” he said.
“After that we did two more rehearsals and went for the grand finale. I met a lot of amazing people like Red-I-am, he coached us and I performed my track. I also bonded with Mucci who actually won.
"He is now a friend of mine, I wouldn’t say I was disappointed because the people from took good care of us, they even told us not to be strangers afterwards so that we work together.”
Event organiser and gospel singer Tafadzwa Rue Nhamburo said Bring it On is targeting the young people.
“It’s a youth talent show that discovers and develops young aspiring Christian artists,” she said.
“It has been happening at Northside Community Church for over 20 years.
“We aim to be a breeding ground for Christian entertainers who will go beyond the four walls of the Church and impact the world with God-glorifying, family friendly content/entertainment.”
Ultimate winner Mucci The Plug also shared his experience, expressing positivity over the event.
“I feel extremely happy, proud of myself because of what I achieved because of the talent God gave me. It goes to show me that I can do greater things through him who gives me strength, and the future is certainly looking bright," The Plug said.
"I am grateful indeed. I made friends there, particularly my relationship with Brandon. It is tight, given we share something in common.
“I first met Brandon during the auditions and we just clicked from there. We have been in constant communication updating and encouraging each other. He's a brother I see staying in my life for the longest time.”
