MUSICIANS from across the Midlands province will this month meet for a conference organised by Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (Zimura) in Kwekwe.
According to a statement, the conference is open to musicians, composers, instrumentalists, promoters, producers, Djs, venue owners and arts journalists from as far as Kadoma, Zhombe, Silobela, Gweru, Zvishavane and Mberengwa among other surrounding communities within reach.
"As Zimura, we are conducting copyright awareness programs nationwide, where we invite artistes, composers and other stakeholders so that we can deliberate on their rights as provided for by copyright law," said Zimura chief excutive officer, Polisile Ncube-Chimhini.
The musicians association has been a critical platform for knowledge transfer on matters related to protection of copyright and advising artistes on legal issues surrounding their creative estates.
"The role of Zimura is to provide such pertinent information to musicians and it is one of many benefits musicians get to access by becoming a Zimura member,” Ncube Chimhini said.
"It is through such a programme that we correct various misconceptions and close information gaps among stakeholders and the business community.”
In the recent past, Zimura had the onus to reach out to musicians in various cities that include Harare, Gweru, Mutare, Masvingo, Hwange, Gwanda, Plumtree and Tsholotsho.
"Having been in Gweru which is the heart of Midlands province for a similar outreach program before this year, we have seen it fit to visit Kwekwe in particular due to a long pending special invitation from artistes, music users and other stakeholders for this initiative.”
Meanwhile, representatives from Home Affairs, the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, Censorship Board and Kwekwe City Council, among others, are expected to grace the conference.
