BUILD Tomorrow Trust, a community based organisation is embarking on a project meant to equip communities and schools into the practice of smart farming in the era of climate change.
The project dubbed Orgafort which means Organic Fortification is the first project under Build Tomorrow Trust. It aims to promote climate smart farming through organic agriculture.
"Our intention is promoting Climate Smart Agriculture while improving the health and Livelihoods of Communities," said Christine Kasipo, the organisation's director.
"We empower the community and work towards climate protection. Community empowerment comes into motion through health promotion and livelihood support, while protecting the climate through the methodologies utilised during our farming," she said.
The Trust has taken the Orgafort programme to schools in Manicaland and Harare Province.
"We have been going around schools and communities to establish nutrition gardens with the intent to eliminate hunger and also introducing nutritious foods and fruits," Kasipo said.
"We first teach the community members abs school children before they head their own gardens. We have taken the programme to Manicaland province, Harare and also with Solusi University in Bulawayo."
The programme has also seen pregnant and breast feeding women being a part of it.
The organisation has active programs at the Rainbow Hotel and Ambassador Hotel in the capital and heading community based programmes in collaboration with Agritex.
