AFTER launching on a modest scale last year, the Carling Black Label DJ Clash has widened its reach and audience in this year’s edition.
The competition’s organisers have announced that after targeting aspiring University student wheel spinners in last year’s event, this year they are going mainstream.
“It was a huge success, with overwhelming support and excitement from both participants and our consumers. As a result, the decision was made to expand it to the mainstream market," read a statement by Delta Beverages.
"The Carling Black Label DJ Clashes will be held in 4 stages targeting both aspiring and professional DJs.” Registration opened on October 9, with regional competitions having started in Masvingo on the 27th October 27 and till December 15. Eight regions will participate namely, Bulawayo, Harare North, Harare South, Chitungwiza, Chinhoyi, Gweru, Masvingo and Mutare
Participants will be required to register and upload a 90-second mixtape via WhatsApp and a closed door panel of judges will adjudicate and select the best 24 mixtapes per region.
Consumers of the beverage will get a chance to share their voice by voting for the best DJs through a sound meter.
A total 24 DJs will qualify for the national finals to be held in Bulawayo on December 22. The DJs will battle it out for the ultimate prize consisting of US3 000,a laptop, controller, cordless microphone, and sound monitor whilst the first runner up will walk away with USD2 000, studio monitor and cordless microphone.
