THE recent unfortunate pronouncements by Dexter Nduna, a former ruling Zanu PF party legislator, have left many in Zimbabwe stunned and concerned.
As the nation grappled with the implications of the currency devaluation, Nduna was secretly plotting a hostile takeover of vehicle parking management in Harare and other cities through his company, Team Chapter, flagrantly disregarding the country’s laws. This is unacceptable.
Nduna’s move is not only alarming, but raises serious questions about the rule of law in the country. His actions are a blatant disregard for the country’s regulatory framework and the rights of existing businesses.
By announcing that his company would take over parking management, Nduna is essentially undermining the authority of local governments, which are mostly run by opposition parties.
Moreover, Nduna’s accusations against City Parking — the company contracted by the Harare City Council — which include money laundering, tax evasion and fraud, are baseless and inflammatory.
His claims that he will remit parking fees to the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration are equally absurd, considering the agency’s poor track record in managing funds.

His actions are a turn-off to investors, as noted by City Parking, which released a statement this week. No sane investor would want to put their money in a country where property laws are not respected.
Also, taking away such revenue streams from local governments will only cripple their ability to provide essential services, which have already been compromised by the economic crisis.
His motives are shrouded in mystery and his actions lack transparency, raising concerns about corruption and self-interest.
It is imperative that relevant authorities, including the ruling Zanu PF party, take immediate action to address Nduna’s blatant transgressions. The government must ensure that property laws are respected and that businesses operate within a fair and predictable regulatory environment.
His actions are a recipe for disaster, and Zimbabweans must not be fooled into thinking that he is acting in their best interest. His true motives are clearly retrogressive. He wants to mobilise resources for himself and his party, regardless of the cost that this brings to the nation.
Remember, he was recently appointed Zanu PF resource mobilisation committee chairperson. He is singing for his supper.
Again, his actions are threatening Zimbabwe’s economic stability and democratic governance. If left unchecked, such power grabs will undermine investor confidence, stifle economic growth and entrench impunity. Zimbabweans must demand accountability from their leaders and institutions.
Zanu PF must take responsibility for Nduna’s actions and ensure he is held accountable.
The government must strengthen institutions, enforce the rule of law and protect businesses and citizens’ rights. Zimbabwe’s future depends on upholding democracy, transparency and accountability.
