VICE-President Kembo Mohadi has revealed that some Zanu PF members have started canvassing for positions in the party’s district co-ordinating committees (DCCs), despite the party yet to give direction on the issue.
In a speech read on his behalf by party national commissar Mike Bimha on Wednesday at a campaign rally held in Gweru’s Mkoba 13 high-density suburb ahead of today’s by-elections, Mohadi said those already campaigning for DCC positions should immediately stop their activities.
“We hear that some other people are working on DCC elections, but we don’t even know when we will have the elections,” Mohadi said.
“So stop that. We agreed as central committee to stop DCC elections now because we want to reorganise our cells. The cells were in shambles and we agreed to postpone the DCC elections. We are waiting for direction and a way forward from our leaders.”
Mohadi said primary elections in the party had passed and urged his party members to unite and win today’s by-elections.
“We must be a united party and we don’t want to hear of bhora musango (protest vote),” he said.

Zanu PF candidate Edgar Ncube will face Democratic Official Party’s Patrick Tayiya in the Mkoba North constituency by-election after the courts barred Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate Amos Chibaya from contesting.
Chibaya was among other opposition MPs and councillors recalled last year by self-proclaimed CCC interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu.
Other by-elections in the Midlands province are in Mkoba ward 11 and Kwekwe wards 5, 9 and 10.
