FARMERS in Matobo district, Matabeleland South, are set to benefit from an Adaptation Innovation Hub Fair and Expo aimed at strengthening community resilience against climate change.

The expo, organised by Sisonke Working Together Trust in partnership with Agritex and local leadership, will be held on July 1 under the theme, Adapt Today and Innovate Tomorrow.

Speaking ahead of the event, Sisonke Trust director Themba Phiri said the fair would bring together farmers from wards 1, 3, 10 and 11, as well as stakeholders operating in the climate change and agricultural sectors.

“These include seed and input providers, stockfeed suppliers and many other stakeholders in the climate change space,” he said.

Phiri said the strategic objective of the fair was to equip farmers with practical knowledge and skills on how to adapt to a changing climate.

“The adaptation fair seeks to build the capacity of farmers on how they can adapt to climate change,” he said.

Phiri noted that communities in Matabeleland South continue to face climate-related challenges such as droughts and erratic rainfall patterns, making it important for farmers to adopt climate-smart agricultural practices.

“Everyone in the region of Matabeleland South has a role to play when it comes to growing small grains and pulses, as well as rearing animal breeds that can cope with the changing climate,” he said.

He added that the expo would create a platform for farmers, agricultural experts and development partners to exchange ideas and strengthen networks.

“During the expo, there will be sharing of messages and networking on how best farmers can adapt to and mitigate climate change,” Phiri said.

The event is expected to showcase innovative farming methods and sustainable agricultural solutions aimed at improving food security and livelihoods in drought-prone communities.

The expo comes a few months after a Climate Change Farmer Field Day was held in ward 4, Tokwana village, Bulilima district, Matabeleland South, in March this year.
