“She is survived by her husband, Mr Baker Mpofu and family.”
Speaking to Southern Eye, councillors expressed sadness over her passing on, saying they had lost a friend and a family member.
Ward 7 councillor Thandiwe Moyo said she was saddened by Mpofu’s death.
“I am so heartbroken. I have lost a dear loving friend. She was always cheerful and I will miss her. My sincere condolences to her husband, they were like twins,” Moyo said.
“I know what he is going through now and it is not easy. May God comfort him and the family during this difficult time.”
Ward 28 councillor Ntandoyenkosi Ndlovu also shared similar sentiments saying Mpofu was a dedicated member of the city council.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of councillor Daisy Velile Mpofu, a founding member of the pro-democracy movement who joined the then MDC in 1999 and remained steadfast in her dedication through our transition to the CCC,” Ndlovu said.
“A true servant of the people, she served Bulawayo with unwavering humility, offering wise counsel during challenging times.
“Her tireless contributions to council committees, particularly the Audit and Future Water Supplies committees, were marked by her vibrant and robust debates.
“She was a model of commitment, attending council meetings religiously and never hesitating to make her voice heard.”
Added Ndlovu: “Her absence leaves an irreplaceable void and our heartfelt condolences go out to her family and the people of Bulawayo. May her legacy of service and dedication inspire us all.”
In a Press statement yesterday, the CCC said Mpofu was a dedicated public servant who spent her life serving her community.
“She was a devoted member of the CCC party and served as the organising secretary for the women assembly in the Bulawayo province,” the opposition party said.
“She passed away today (on Tuesday) and the CCC party sends its heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and the entire Bulawayo City Council community.”
Mpofu was sworn in as a PR councillor in April last year.
During her term of office, she served as a member of the Audit and Future Water Supplies and Water Action committees.
