TWO Zimbabwean men have been locked up for murder in Botswana’s remand prison.
Nthabise Sibanda (30) and Thobekani Ncube (24), who are being accused of killing a Cash Cruisaders employee, appeared at the Francistown Magistrates Court.
They were not asked to plead to murder and entering Botswana without requisite documents.
They were remanded in custody to January 14.
The two were arrested on Christmas Day for allegedly killing Listen Bakani Chakasala (30).
The court heard that Chakasala’s body, which was severely wounded, was found near Nyangabwe Cultural Hill on December 21.
Media reports from the neighbouring country state that police then conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of the two Zimbabweans, who irregularly entered that country.
They sought to apply for bail, but prosecutor Gasemotho Pitagano opposed their application, arguing that the suspects were a flight risk.
“The core reasons are that the matter is still fresh and other suspects are still on the run,” Pitagano said.
“Accused persons are illegal immigrants without a permanent place of abode, so if granted bail they may abscond.”
When asked if they had anything to say in court, they claimed that they wanted to “open a can of worms”, but were advised to keep the details for the trial magistrate for their case.
