A BULAWAYO non-governmental organisation has sent an SOS seeking support to shelter vulnerable children, including orphans.

The call was made by Mustard Seed, which houses vulnerable children in the city.

Mustard Seed communities’ head of child care department, Sithandazile Nyoni, said they are seeking to make a difference to the most vulnerable children in different communities.

“We are currently in residential care. We are in the process of setting up another shelter to complement the three rooms we already have to provide a safe place for children,” she said, adding that their main focus is on those with disabilities.

“Most residential centres only take able-bodied children,” she said.

“The need is not only in Bulawayo, and so we have been of late admitting children from almost all provinces of the country.

“Some children stay in the hospital for a very long time after being abandoned. They have nowhere to go and we have managed to rescue such children.”

She said they currently have 56 orphans under their care.
