Miss Cass was a rare gem

Cassandra Chawira

THE late radio presenter for Victoria Falls’ first commercial radio station Breeze FM, Cassandra “Miss Cass” Chawira has been described as a rare gem on the airwaves by colleagues in the entertainment industry.

Chawira fell ill on Sunday and was admitted at Victoria Falls General Hospital where she died Monday.

She was 36.

Chawira, who was known for championing support for local artistes both on her radio show and social media pages, will be buried Saturday.

The chief executive of Fairtalk Communications, which owns Breeze FM, Godwin Phiri said the late presenter was a high flier and a rare gem who was dedicated when it came to radio.

“The passing on of Cassandra is really a sad loss for us at Breeze FM. We identified her through auditions that we did in 2015 and she was one of the original presenters at Breeze FM,” Phiri noted.

“Cassandra was always worried about the output of the station and the quality of content we would deliver to the listeners.”

Breeze FM breakfast show host Thanduxolo Ndlovu said: “Wherever she went she wanted peace. She was always dancing and laughing and very bubbly. I will fondly remember her versatile personality.”

Former Skyz Metro FM presenter and producer Angel Ndebele described Miss Cass as an eagle that is seen once a year.

“Miss Cass was very friendly and humble. She was always supportive of others. The last time I saw her was when we both attended a fashion show in Matobo and she travelled all the way to support the designer and the models. You hardly get that kind of attitude in this competitive industry, her uniqueness is her legacy,” she explained.
