All set for the Post Insurance Mr Pace marathon

ALL is set for the staging of the third edition of the Post Insurance Mr Pace half marathon at the National Sports Stadium B Arena this Saturday.

ALL is set for the staging of the third edition of the Post Insurance Mr Pace half marathon at the National Sports Stadium B Arena this Saturday.

Held under the auspices of Zimpost and its partners including Nicoz Diamond, Global Risk Underwriting Managers, Zimbabwe National Roads Administration and Mr Pace Athletics Club, among others, the event continues to grow in stature and is expected to attract top local athletes following the doubling of the purse to US$20 000 this year.

At least 1 000 athletes are billed to participate in the competition.

Event organiser Venencia Sigauke said she was excited about the competition which is registering growth each year.

“We are excited about the event and preparations are at an advanced stage. We have a number of athletes who have already registered and corporates that have expressed interest and so we are expecting a huge turnout on our third edition on Saturday,” she said.

“In-terms of preparations we are almost done and we are now waiting for the day so that people will get to exercise as part of the mental wellness theme that we have this year,” Sigauke added.

The categories include the 21km, 10km and 5km races with separate categories for the senior men and women, veteran masters, great grand masters, juniors and wheelchair athletes

This year’s edition will see the introduction of the 1km diplomatic race for dignitaries.

Mr Pace Athletics Club representative Proud Bhanya is also expecting a competitive event.

“We are grateful that we are once again able to host this annual event, which is a renowned race in Zimbabwe.

“If you host an event which brings many people together, it only proves that there is growth in your way of doing things and so we are grateful,” said Bhanya.

Last year, the duo of Olivia Chitate and Elijah Mabhunu won the women’s and men’s 21km races respectively.

Post Insurance Mr Pace half marathon is one of the three promotions launched by Zimpost early last month along with the Post Insurance Ensure, Licence and Win as well as Post Insurance Staff promotions.
