Lightning kills man looking for donkeys

Local
Matabeleland South province police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident and identified the man as Amuwelang Prince Ndou.

A-22-YEAR-OLD man from Zezani in Beitbridge was struck dead last week by lightning, while looking for his stray donkeys.

Matabeleland South province police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident and identified the man as Amuwelang Prince Ndou.

“On October 16, Ndou and another elderly man went to the field to look for donkeys and lightning struck him, while they were near a tree where they fell down, collapsed and became unconscious,” Mangena said.

Ndou later regained consciousness and discovered that his colleague was still unconscious. Other villagers then mobilised transport to ferry Ndou to Zezani Hospital, but he died on the way.

Mangena urged the public to avoid exposing themselves to high grounds when it is raining as they risk becoming lightning conductors.
