Alpha Media Holdings reporter Mpumelelo Moyo last week walked home as a first runner-up at the African Influencer Awards held in Bulawayo.

Moyo, who is an arts and entertainment reporter for the AMH’s stable, battled for honours with several other media influencers in the Editor’s Special Award category which was eventually won by author Jona Nyoni, who is also a columnist for AMH.

The awards are meant to celebrate and honour outstanding youths in their respective fields by Afrluencer Media.

It was hosted by TV news anchor Farai Mugida.

“This is my third nomination in 12 months and the first time I got a trophy,” Moyo said.

“I appreciate that even the second runner up also gets a trophy and a certificate and even expressed their gratitude in an acceptance speech.

“Being nominated alone is always a pat on the back because it means one is acknowledged for the work they do and that the industry is paying attention.

“I would like to thank my family and my close friends to whom I dedicate this gong as well as my editors and readers.”

Moyo was nominated for the Outstanding Arts Journalist at the Bulawayo Arts Award last year, which was won by Mbulelo Mpofu from The Chronicle.

This year he was nominated in the same category at the Bulawayo Models Awards and it was claimed by Ibrahim of Ibra Magazine.
