Jamaican legend Burning Spear, born Winston Rodney, is expected to touch down at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport on Wednesday for the One People Africa Tour concert slated for Glamis Arena in Harare on Friday.
Local show organisers, Friends of Jamaica, in partnership with Sound System Club, confirmed the Jamaican's Zimbabwean itinerary.
“Burning Spear and his band will jet into Zimbabwe this Wednesday at 4:20pm at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport and this will be followed by a press conference for arts journalists at 5pm at Cresta Lodge,” the organisers said in a statement.
One of the organisers, Nev Bennet, said a number of radio and television interviews have also been lined up for Burning Spear and his band.
“He is also expected to visit some of the rasta communities in high density suburbs as well as meeting some of his fans,” Bennet said.
He said Burning Spear tickets were selling like hot cakes, and they were almost sold out and urged reggae fans to buy their tickets in time and avoid the last-minute rush.
Burning Spear will also perform in Johannesburg, South Africa, Lusaka Zambia, Lilongwe Malawi, and Nairobi, Kenya, under the One People Africa Tour
Burning Spear is a reggae music icon and a two-time Grammy Award winner. With a career spanning over five decades, he is known for his powerful and soulful voice, delivering messages of unity, love, peace, and social justice.
Local supporting acts include Transit Crew, Mannex Motsi, and Feli Nandi, among others.
