HUNDREDS of service providers and auto enthusiasts will battle for top spots in 24 categories at the Auto Awards Zimbabwe to be held in Harare on September 29.

Event organisers Zimtorque says preparations are at an advanced stage with multiple exhibitors and sponsors already on board.

“This event brings everyone in the motoring industry together, whether you are selling a product or buying a product. Even if you are a dealership or into spare parts and services, you are part of this event,” Zimtorque executive director Daniel Manhanga said in an interview earlier this week.

Manhanga insurance companies and banks who offer vehicle financing as well as fuel dealers will also be among the contestants and exhibitors.

“We also have guys that have modified vehicles, we have car racers, circuit racers, drag racers, carts, motocross, and spinners. It’s just going to be a complete display of what we do and what our partners do on the big day,” added Manhanga.

He said these shows and awards, which rebranded along the way, have been held annually since 2012.

Major awards include Best Dealership of the Year, Car of the Year, Loudest Car of the Year, Best Product Seller of the Year, and Best Service Provider of the Year.

Currently, there are multiple partners, sponsors, and exhibitors.

Manhanga said among the major sponsors is Buffalo Trading, a major alcohol manufacturer, as well as fuel dealer Energy Park and auto body specialists King Car Strippers.

The access fee is pegged at US$10.

“There is going to be background music throughout the day, kids’ entertainment, and multiple catering stands,” Manhanga added.

Zimtorque founder Tanaka Kutama encouraged electric vehicle owners and service providers to register for the event.

“Electric vehicles are the future, whether it’s the hybrid or full electric version and we are heavily invested in that area,” Kutama said.

“It is cheaper to run an electric vehicle compared to combustion engines and it’s also environmentally friendly,” added Kutama.
