Local property developer, Craft Properties, has handed over two classroom blocks, water and sanitation facilities to authorities at Easterlea Primary School in Chakari on the outskirts of Kadoma.
The water and sanitation facilities include an ablution block and an 85-metre deep borehole.
Primary and Secondary Education minister Torerayi Moyo underscored the transformative power of public, private, partnership in advancing educational infrastructure.
“Through partnerships like this one we are witnessing today, we are not just constructing physical structures, we are building the foundation for a brighter future for our children,” Moyo said.
“The provision of these two classroom blocks, ablution facilities and an 85-metre deep borehole signifies more than just physical structures to our schools; it represents significant strides towards achieving the sustainable development objectives outlined in NDS1.
“By investing in educational facilities, we are not only enhancing the learning environment, but also laying the groundwork for a more educated and skilled workforce, essential for realizing the ambitious goals set for Vision 2030.”
Moyo said the handover ceremony echoes the call of President Emmerson Mnangagwa for a renewed focus on education in the country.
“Education stands at the core of our nation’s development; and these contributions exemplify the President’s unwavering dedication to fostering a conducive learning environment for our youth,” he said.
The Primary and Secondary Education minister underscored the power of collaborations in national development.
“This act of philanthropy embodies the belief that progress is achieved through both the collaborative efforts of both private and public entities working hand in hand towards a common goal,” Moyo said.
“By aligning their actions with this national ethos, Craft Properties has set a shining example of how individual contributions can significantly impact the collective advancement and prosperity of Zimbabwe.”
Meanwhile, Craft Properties used the occasion to donate 10 residential stands to people with disabilities, five residential stands to people with albinism and 10 wheelchairs to those who need them most.
Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare minister July Moyo said the gesture by the property developer signifies the importance of community togetherness.
“It is through such partnerships that we can build a more inclusive society where everyone has equal access to opportunities and resources,” he said.
“As we move forward, let us all take a moment to reflect on the impact of kindness and generosity.
“Let this occasion inspire us to continue working together, to uplift one another, and to create a world where everyone — regardless of their abilities or circumstances — can live with dignity and hope.”
The Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare minister said the donation affirms the dignity and potential of every individual, regardless of their circumstances.
“Today, as we present these residential stands and wheelchairs, we are not just giving material possessions; we are providing opportunities,” he said.
“These stands will offer homes to those who may have faced barriers in securing safe and accessible housing.
“The wheelchairs will empower individuals to navigate their communities with confidence.
“To the recipients of these donations, I want to remind you that you are not alone.
“You are part of a broader community that values your strength, resilience, and contributions.
“We believe in your potential to thrive and succeed, and we are here to support you on your journey.”
Craft Properties founder and CEO Kudakwashe Taruberekera thanked all who rallied behind the project.
“ To the local leadership, thank you for your support and dedication. We will never forget the hard work espoused by the District Development Coordinator for Sanyati, who was ever present here on the ground giving us strength even as we were about to give up,” he said.
“We are also grateful for the immense support the school staff gave us here. Madam Fuyane and your team, we will forever be indebted to your hard work and dedication.
“Allow me to thank each and every member of our Craft Properties hardworking staff, dedicated volunteers from the community, and numerous others I can’t mention for the purposes of time.
“It is your unwavering commitment and selfless demeanour that has enabled us to make a profound difference in the lives of the students of Easterlea and consequently the community of ward 15 Chakari and surrounding areas.”
He said his company with support from stakeholders worked towards the development and improvement of the educational facilities, clean water access, and digital connectivity over the last eight months.
“These blocks not only serve as a symbol of hope and opportunity, but also as a testament to our commitment to education as the key to a brighter future,” Taruberekera said.
“We firmly believe that every child should have access to a quality education, and we hope our new classrooms ensure just that.
“Not just by our hard work but also through the Grace of God, we managed to undertake this project without funding or monetary assistance from any financial institutions or donors.
“We are, however, grateful to our stakeholders for their assistance in their capacity.”
He said his company also donated a Starlink kit to bridge the digital divide.
“This technology will empower students, teachers, and community members with access to information, opportunities, and a global network of knowledge,” he said.
