LEADING local air-conditioning firm owner Fungai Mwale has taken a prominent role in a bid to revive to its original status the derelict Glen Norah Park which was once the pride of Glen Norah and neighbouring Highfield.

As part of the initiative Mwale has organised the maiden Glen Norah Family Entertainment and Exhibition Show set for August 23 at the park.

He said the free family event organised by Furusco in partnership with the City of Harare is expected to draw corporates

“I was born and raised in the high density suburb of Glen Norah, I want to revive the park by resuscitating infrastructure, this is not a once off thing, it’s going to be a monthly event,” Mwale said.

“Our motivation is also to decongest our central business district by focusing on marginalised areas.”

Mwale said there would be a kids and animal world section, children’s play centre, mud sports, athletics, business, exhibition, full bar and catering and a  live concert.

“Business opportunities are available for all ages and interests and we call on   all stakeholders to partner in this initiative,” he said.

“We will provide family entertainment that cuts across all ages from jumping castles, beauty and nails, pool darts to braai.

“The events will feature the work of artistes of all genres from sungura, Zimdancehall to gospel, among others.”

Mwale said the drawcard for businesses was the Market Lane, a unique flea market that will occupy a minimum of 300 cubicles that are segmented along various business lines.

“We are working hand in glove with the City of Harare and call on philanthropic foundations to come and showcase what they do,” he said.

“The public will enter the venue for free, our target is over 60 000, therefore bring your business, big or small, and reach out to these potential clients.”
