Rapper, Kikky Badass, has defended the ruling party Zanu PF and controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo for splashing cars on musicians.
Chivayo has sparked controversy by showering musicians, who publicly support Zanu PF with luxury cars and money.
Many music commentators suspect these gifts are actually on behalf of the ruling party, a way to curry favour with influential artists.
During an appearance on The Episode podcast hosted by Darrly Nyamz, rapper Kikky Badass revealed she was also among the musicians gifted with a Mercedes Benz C250 by Chivayo.
This act has sparked controversy, with many music commentators suspecting Chivayo's gifts, particularly to artists, who support the ruling Zanu PF party, are actually on the party's behalf.
“How could I have not received a car? Obviously, I got a car,” she said.
“It’s not every artist, who is receiving cars. There were artists who endorsed the ruling party and those, who sided with the opposition party. I don’t see a problem with people thanking the artists for their endorsement of the ruling party.
“There are others who were given cars from the beginning that didn't ask for cars; it was a way of appreciation,” she said.
Kikky Badass defended the gifts, arguing that they were a form of recognition for the criticism and abuse endured by musicians who publicly supported Zanu PF in the lead-up to the August general elections won by Emmerson Mnangagwa.
“We were crucified, insulted, and bullied for endorsing the ruling party. So, when they said they were gifting me with a car, it's because they saw how it affected me when I was bullied. I didn't ask or beg for a car; we were simply appreciative, and I don't see anything wrong with that,” she said.
