Zimbabwean comedian Learnmore Jonasi has set his sights on the coveted US$1 million prize money on America's Got Talent, after receiving a golden buzzer from Terry Crews.
Last Tuesday, Jonasi joked about his experiences in Chimanimani, a rural area in Zimbabwe and how his life in the United States of America differs from his home.
He received a great response from the judges and the crowd. Before the panel could vote, host Terry Crews came out and awarded Jonasi the first golden buzzer of the season.
Jonasi revealed that he was a huge fan of Terry Crews since he was a child. He wanted to be like Crews when he grew up, and this experience changed his life.
The comedian added that being on AGT was a breakthrough in his career and it meant the world to him.
“Guys, I’m going for the million,” Jonasi posted on social media, attracting words of encouragement from his fans.
“I'm looking forward to my next audition on America's Got Talent and I'm preparing every single day, writing and rehearsing for the next performance.
“We need to win, and we are going to win those million dollars. I need my fans to vote when the time comes. This money is not going to change only my life, but a lot of people's lives.”
While the prize is advertised as US$1 million, winners can choose to receive it as a lump sum or as an annuity paid out over 40 years at around $25 000 per year. Both options are subject to taxation.
Meanwhile, Jonasi announced his upcoming shows:
“I have some shows coming up. My manager and agent are working hard. We have shows in Chicago, New York, California, and many more lined up. Please keep checking my calendar as it will be continuously updated,” he said.
“I appreciate you Zimbabweans for all the support you have been giving me, and to my international fans, please keep supporting me.”
Jonasi has upcoming shows in Phoenix, Arizona; Manchester; Philadelphia; Boston; Sunnyvale; Raleigh; Pittsburgh; and West Nyack.
