Despite January's usual lull in show promotions due to financial constraints, the Bars on Bars rap battle hosted by Noble Stylz became the undeniable highlight of the month.
Kicking off 2024 in grand style at its customary venue, Moto Republik last week.
Titled Battle Of The North as two St Georges college alumni's RayKaz and Donne Jovi delivered a historic classic battle in Zimhip-hop.
Donne Jovi dedicated his incredible performance to his late young brother Tari Maponga whom he lost a year ago.
Motivated by such high stacks, he raised the bar all the way to heaven.
Ray Kazz, born Raymond Kazembe, came into the battle bubbling after clearly destroying mcee's on the Zimhip-hop Awards cypher in December.
He went blow-for-blow with Donne Jovi as the crowd got more than they asked for.
Hip-hop royalty like Begotten Sun, Karizma, Kay Flow and Hanna were part of a great crowd, which gave a standing ovation to the two lyrical masters who hugged and shared mutual respect after a grueling one hour of non-stop jabs and punches.
“It was billed to be a classic but the crowd made it historic,” said Noble Stylz.
“Seeing the hip-hop community come together to enjoy rap in its purest form with love and respect is motivation to have more of these battles.
“Hence we take them national.
“Our hope is to unlock talent and through our new Trust Me Bro podcast we shall bridge the gap between the hip-hop pioneers and the new kings and queens.”
The initiative is a continuation from the For The Culture, which started last year held at Moto Republik and went on to promote a lot of new artists and brands.
