Former Premier Soccer League Clubs Tenax CS FC and Triangle FC are putting in a fight to dethrone runaway log leaders FC Wangu Mazodze as the Eastern Region Soccer League draws to a close.
FC Wangu Mazodze are now leading by seven points.
Tenax FC and Triangle United FC are refusing to throw in the towel for PSL promotion, making the ERSL interesting as the competition is getting heated up between the three teams.
The battle lines have been drawn and one team will have the winning hand.
FC Wangu Mazodze failed to gain promotion last year after suffering a final day heartbreak as they drew nil all against Renco Mine FC while Tenax FC failed to gain promotion to the PSL after a board hearing with Bikita Minerals FC getting top flight football ticket.
Triangle FC were relegated from the premier league last season and are trying to make sure that they immediately gain back promotion.
All the top three teams dropped points last week with Triangle, currently second in the league, drawing nil nil with second placed Tenax FC at Gibbo Stadium.
The log leaders FC Wangu Mazodze also hosted Huku FC and drew nil all.
In an interview with this publication FC Wangu Mazodze spokesperson, Blessing Kwesha said the race is not tough for them as they remained comfortable at the top
“The race was not tough for us, not at all considering that we are sitting on top of the log with a seven point lead. We still have the chance to stretch the lead to 10 as Tenax, the team on our heels still has to sit out a bye. The main thing is just for our team to continue winning the remaining games and maintain the gap. Personally l feel the team is very comfortable, if we win our next four games out of the remaining seven and a draw, we are already in the Promised Land. It is tough but very much doable,” he said.
“For the remaining games we just have to keep the momentum going and continue with the winning formula. We expect our fans to continue filling up the stadiums cheering the Kingdom Boys in their numbers,” said Kwesha.
Kwesha said despite all that is happening they were positive the team was going to get promoted.
“As a Club we are backing ourselves to get promoted. We are confident in our technical team headed by Coach Emeritus Rtd Warrant Officer John Nyikadzino and our quality players to see us through," he said.
“Last year we came so close and we took some lessons from that. This year it shows we have stood our ground and we have no doubt next season we will be in the PSL.”
The top four teams in the ERSL are in action today with FC Wangu Mazodze traveling to Renco Mine while Tenax FC will play against Great Zimbabwe University FC at Mucheke Stadium and Triangle FC host Mutare City Rovers FC.
FC Wangu Mazodze are leading the race with 60 points from 25 games played, Tenax FC are on 53 points having played 26 games played and Triangle have 51 points in 25 matches.
