WARRIORS forward Tawanda Maswanhise made a blistering start to his career in the Scottish topflight after inspiring Motherwell to a win over Kilmarnock in a cup competition on Sunday.
Maswanhise was introduced in the 58th minute and instantly started troubling the Kilmarnock defence with his pace and tricks.
He then set up Moses Ebile for the winner in the first half of extra time as his side advanced to the next stage of the League Cup.
They will meet Dundee in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Maswanhise joined Motherwell on a six-month contract after impressing in a two-week trial stint.
He signed a short-term deal until January, with the club holding an option to extend the stay.
A product of the Leicester City youth academy, 21-year-old Maswanhise developed through the ranks with the Foxes before cementing himself as a “shining light” in the club’s Premier League 2 Division 1 squad.
“Tawanda has been on trial for a couple of weeks now,” manager Stuart Kettlewell told the club’s website.
“We have been impressed with his endeavour every time he has taken to the training pitch. He took part in the bounce match against Everton last week and once again, he looked good.
“He offers something a bit different for us. He is quick, direct and likes to find the back of the net. There is lots of potential with Tawanda and hopefully we can get the best out of him.”
Capable of playing centrally or as a winger, Maswanhise netted a hat-trick as a trialist for English League 2 outfit Stockport County after departing the foxes this summer.
The Zimbabwean international, capped three-times by his country, joined Kettlewell’s side last week.
“I am just buzzing to be in this position,” Maswanhise said after signing his contract.
“This summer has been about hard work and getting my head down. I have been looking for an opportunity to show people what I can do and now I have got one.
“I feel good and feel ready to make an impact.”
Following his debut on Sunday, Maswanhise impressed the club’s supporters, who took to social media to laud him.
He is expected to add to his three international caps when Zimbabwe play Kenya and Cameroon in Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month.
