NORTHERN Region Division One Soccer League side Scottland FC have added former Warriors leftback Ronald Pfumbidzai to their squad in what is a clear sign of the ambitious side’s intention to win Premier League promotion this year.

The 29-year-old becomes the latest big name signing for the club following the arrival of King Nadolo, Leeroy Mavhunga and Allen Gahadzikwa last week.

Scotland FC already boast other big names, including former Soccer Star of the Year Denver Mukamba, former Yadah goalkeeper Panashe Nyabunga and Lincoln Zvasiya, while another former Warriors player Jimmy Dzingai also joined.

Pfumbidzai was a free agent after parting ways with South Africa Premiership side SuperSport United at the end of last season.

Northern Region Division One league announced on their social media pages the arrival of the former Caps United leftback.

A number of Premier League clubs reportedly tried to entice Pfumbidzai and reports last week suggested he was heading for Yadah.

However, it appears the well-resourced Scottland FC, sponsored by Mabvuku-Tafara legislator and gold miner Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya, moved swiftly to sign the player under the noses of other potential suitors.

The club managed to beat the Wednesday player transfer deadline to register the player with Zifa and is now waiting for his International Transfer Certificate from South Africa to feature in the domestic games.

Scottland FC are frantically pushing for the clearance so that the former Bloemfontein Celtic player can be available for tomorrow’s big clash against log leaders Black Rhinos.

The clash, pencilled for The Heart Stadium, is the pick of the weekend fixtures as action returns to the second-tier division following a two-week mid-season break.

The Mabvuku-based outfit, which has publicly stated that they are gunning for the league title, will be looking to do a double over another title aspirant Black Rhinos after beating the army side 2-0 before the fortnight’s recess.

Scottland FC are fourth on the log standings with 38 points, but the log is so congested at the top that they are just three points off the toppers Black Rhinos, who are coached by Nesbert Saruchera.

The Lloyd Mutasa-coached MWOS are second with 40 points, while Harare City are third, with the same number of points as Scottland FC.

Sakupwanya’s club was formed just weeks before the season kicked-off, but they have declared their intention of winning the title on their first attempt.

Besides flexing their financial muscle in the transfer market to bolster their squad with some of the best players available, the club recently added former Warriors and Umtata Bush Bucks captain William Mugeyi to the technical bench.

A victory over Rhinos tomorrow would not only guarantee them the much-needed three points that could see them move top of the log, but also underline their credentials as well as sending a huge signal to rivals.
