EASTERN Region Division One football side Destiny Stars player David Chirandu has scooped the June player of the month award for the second tier debutants.
The 28-old-defender, who is on loan from Premiership side Manica Diamonds, is in form and has been voted man of the match for five consecutive games.
Mutare City Rovers coach Kennedy Kachara scooped the coach of the month award as he has helped the side to number two on the log standings.
ERSL regional administrator Fungai Munyoro Chingaira confirmed the awards to NewsDay Sport on Thursday saying they will continue to reward excelling players to motivate them.
“We want to congratulate Mutare City Rovers head coach Kennedy “Bokande” Kachara for winning the June coach of the month and Destiny Stars player David Chirandu for winning the player of the month,” she said.
The two walked away with trophies and prize money.
Destiny Stars secretary -general Jemutias Manhondo said he was happy for the player.
“David Chirandu has been consistent since the start of the season and he has managed to win man of the match awards several times , he is on loan from Manica Diamonds,” he added.
Destiny Stars are on 10th position with 17 points from their opening 12 matches while Mutare City Rovers occupy second position with 25 points seven points adrift of log leaders FC Wangu Mazodze.
Destiny Stars started from humble beginnings after they started playing in a church league in the church league. The idea to be involved in football started almost five years ago under the name Church of Christ in Mutare as a way of fighting drug abuse among youths. Wilson "Soks" Masokowere is the president of the team with David Bati as the chairman, Lyold Chinawa is the vice- chairman while Temba “Shumba” Sauramba is the treasurer.
