RETURNING Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu wants to reinvent and reinvigorate the Premier Soccer League giants so that they can start challenging for titles.
Bosso rehired Kaindu for a second spell at the club following his first stint between 2012 and 2014. Kaindu comes after the team parted ways with Brazilian mentor Baltemar Brito who failed to bring back glory.
Speaking from his base in Zambia, Kaindu admitted that he has a big task ahead of him but wants the team to rebrand.
Kaindu is flattered by the excitement that has gripped Bosso fans over his return to the club.
“It is good to be coming back home again and thank you so much to the fans for the welcome remarks and the response. We have a big assignment. We need to rebrand the team and bring back the team to the position where we can compete and challenge the other teams in the league. That we can do by building confidence in the team and having trust in everyone,” Kaindu told NewsDaySport.
During his first spell, Kaindu promoted several junior players into the senior team and twice they fell narrowly short of winning the league title.
The coach, who also played for Highlanders in the late 1990s, said it is paramount to revert to the programmes that he was implementing while at the club.
He intends to build a competitive squad for the local league and develop players that can make it to other leagues in the world, thereby creating revenue for the club.
“I think it would probably be good to start with the project that we were doing and hopefully we can build from there and build a team that is able to bring competition in the league and hopefully build players that can break into other leagues as well,” he said.
Among the players that were promoted to the senior team during Kaindu's first stint at Highlanders are Godfrey Makaruse, Lewis “Rambo” Sibanda, Status Nsingo, Ryan Howes, Bobby Nkomo, Mgcini Sibanda and Graciano Chakafana.
Makaruse is still an influential player at Bosso but suffered a career-threatening injury at the beginning of the year but has since recovered.
Some of the players that donned the Bosso shirt include Knox Mutizwa, who is making waves in the South African top league as well as Gabriel Nyoni, whose career was curtailed by injury in South Africa.
Veteran goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda, Bruce Kangwa, Mthulisi Maphosa, Innocent Mapuranga, Peter “Rio” Moyo, Milton Ncube, Graham Ncube, Charles Sibanda, Rahman Kutsanzira, Welcome Ndiweni, Bhekimpilo Ncube, Masimba Mambare, Lawson Nkomo, Simon Munawa and Munyaradzi Diya are some of the players that were under Kaindu at Highlanders.
